The Northern Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the deaths of three children whose bodies were discovered in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis.
The deceased have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3; Saani Alsharaf, 5; and Dauda Fadilan, 7.
According to a police statement issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, the children reportedly left home at about 8am on Sunday, October 4, to attend Islamic classes but failed to return.
Efforts by community members to locate them were unsuccessful until about 5am on Monday, when their bodies were discovered inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.
Police said officers who proceeded to the scene found the vehicle stuck in mud on a road leading to the area.
A preliminary inspection of the vehicle showed that the driver’s door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.
The police said preliminary investigations had established that the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, who told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck in the mud for the past five days.
The individual has since been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist with the investigation.
The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a special team comprising homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command.
The vehicle has been secured by the police for further forensic examination.
The police said the outcome of the autopsy, together with ongoing investigations, is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
