Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has called for stronger and more sustainable financing mechanisms to support Ghana’s housing needs.
Mr Ayariga said addressing the country’s housing challenge requires more than increasing the supply of physical structures, stressing the need to mobilise long-term capital and improve access to affordable financing.
He made the remarks in a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, following his participation in the National Conference on Housing Finance 2026.
The conference brought together stakeholders to explore practical approaches to improving housing finance and expanding access to adequate housing in Ghana.
According to Mr Ayariga, discussions at the conference focused on key issues including long-term capital mobilisation, affordable mortgage financing and sustainable housing solutions.
He said the availability and affordability of financing must form an integral part of efforts to address Ghana’s housing needs.
