As part of their efforts to lessen the financial burden on the government during this ongoing 13th African Games, the Stanbic Bank Ghana has donated 200,000ghc to Team Ghana through the Ministry of Youth & Sports.
In a short ceremony at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra on Thursday, the Managing Director of Stanbic Bank Kwamena Asomaning expressed his outfit’s desire to support Team Ghana to continue excelling in the 13th edition of Africa Games on home soil.
“It’s a great pleasure to visit some facilities for the games. We are focused on driving Africa’s growth with sports inclusive. The games currently being held is fully aligned with our purpose. Ghana developing sports through these games is a course that we fully support.”
“We understand the economic challenges our country is going through and government alone cannot shoulder the cost of hosting this event. So, we decided to support the event with an amount of 200000 Ghana cedis to augment what other entities have done”.
The Minister of Youth and Hon Mustapha Ussif appreciated the effort by Stanbic Bank and used the platform to appeal to other corporate bodies to come and support.
“We are grateful to Stanbic Bank for this huge and timely support towards Team Ghana. This support will help us as we plan to pay the accumulated perdiems of the athletes. We appreciate your contribution to all sports development”.
“I want to urge other corporate bodies to come and support this Games because the government alone cannot do it without their support considering the number of athletes, officials, volunteers, etc.” The ceremony was attended by some members of the Local Organizing Committee headed by Dr Kwaku Ofosu Asare.
