Afua Asantewaa, a Ghanaian event planner and tourism ambassador, is gearing up for another attempt at the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon by an individual. Known for her previous effort in December 2023, where she captivated the nation with a five-day singing marathon, Afua is determined to try again after being disqualified during her first attempt.

Her first attempt aimed to surpass the current record held by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Despite her tireless effort, she fell short of the record after a technical disqualification. The disqualification was reportedly due to not meeting certain stipulations set by Guinness World Records, even though her passion and perseverance gained national attention.

In an interview with Akoma FM’s Tony Best on the mid-morning show, Afua Asantewaa confirmed that she had received approval from Guinness World Records to host another singathon. This time, the event will be held in Kumasi, the Ashanti Region’s capital. Speaking on the platform, she said, “I can tell you on your show that, God willing in December, I will be hosting another singathon, but this time I’m planning to do it in Kumasi.”

Asantewaa revealed that her team is currently conducting a feasibility study to determine the most suitable location in Kumasi for the event, ensuring that residents can actively engage with the show. She further highlighted that this second attempt will help solidify her ambassadorial role in promoting tourism and cultural activities across the country.

Despite the setback from her first attempt, Afua Asantewaa remains resolute, stating that the failure should not deter her from pursuing her dream. “The fact that I was not successful in my first attempt shouldn’t be a barrier to my quest of becoming a Guinness World record holder,” she added.

In preparation for this upcoming event, a press conference will soon be held to officially launch the December singathon, where more details will be shared about the location and schedule. As excitement builds, many Ghanaians are expected to rally behind her once again, hopeful that she can secure a place in the prestigious record books.

Afua Asantewaa’s journey towards this monumental achievement has already inspired many, and with the support of her team and the public, her second attempt could mark a historic moment for Ghana.
