Agbawe family of La welcome govt’s release of Amrahia dairy lands

Five out of the six families under the Agbawe Family of La have been credited with portions of land after the government released 40% of the Amrahia Dairy Farms lands to them.

The beneficiary communities are Amrahia, Oyarifa, Damfa, Kweimam, Solomon Edmund, and Odamtten.

The Agba-We Mantse, Mi-ye-Mil-Ni-Aba Nii Adjei Asua Oweeni II, explained the circumstances under which the lands were shared and assured the people that it is a safe place to be.

“The Amrahia Dairy Farm land was acquired by the government through Executive Instrument EI-1970 for dairy production. The dairy farms operated fully for 30 years before being abandoned. The allodial owners petitioned the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for compensation.”

After a series of meetings and on-site inspections, the Ministry decided to retain 60% of the land, including all properties and installations of the Ministry of Agriculture. The families were offered the remaining 40% instead of compensation, as per a letter dated November 25, 2020, and signed by the then Minister, Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh.

Per this release from the Ministry, the beneficiaries – the six communities except Oyarifa – took their share.

The Agba-We Mantse, Miyemliniaba Nii Adjei Asua Oweeni II, shared the circumstances under which the land was shared and assured the beneficiaries of an incident-free period.

“About a year ago, the government released portions of the land to the Agba-we Family of La, and we have been working on it since then. Initially, there were encroachers on the land, but we’ve had to undertake proper documentation to legitimize our claims. Fortunately, the Inspector General of Police (IGP) assisted us by deploying officers who ensured a smooth distribution process. Thanks to their help, we’ve been able to allocate the land properly among the deserving families.”

He also urged encroachers to approach the rightful owners for regularization.

Miyemliniaba Nii Adjei Asua Oweeni II, Agba-We Mantse said “The lands belong to the Agbawe family, so those who encroached on the land should come forward for proper documentation and regularization. We do not want to haul people before the courts. If you fall within that category, please come forward and have your interest properly documented.”

The family head of Awua We, Nii Awua Okpoti Paulo, also welcomed the decision to release the lands to the families.

Hr said “We give thanks to the Almighty God, as this journey has not been easy. We welcome the words of our leader and, for now, we express our gratitude to him. His words were a call for unity, and for those who acquired land without following the proper procedures, we will peacefully work towards regularization. Every member under the Agbawe family has received their share, which will facilitate future development and ensure the betterment of our future generations.”
