A retired Police officer and security analyst Nana Appiah Owusu has urged retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Agordzo to apologise to the inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare for his recent attacks on the Police chief.
According to him, it is unfortunate for Mr Agordzo to be urging mutiny against the IGP in view of his recent brushes with the law.
The comment comes on the back of the latest attack on the IGP by the embattled retired assistant commissioner.
Taking to Facebook to voice his displeasure at the development, Nana Owusu said the IGP has served the nation diligently and his work is obvious for all to see.
“Reading and listening to the retired police commissioner on the subject regarding whether or not the current IGP will stay in office or be removed, I was actually bemused by his comments to the fact that if IGP stays in office beyond 7th January 2025, some police officers would mobilize and forcibly remove him from office. I tried to process the motive behind his comments, in the course of my analysis it occurred to me that this gentleman was one time arrested for alleged coup attempt or plotting,” he noted.
He stressed “Of course the President Elect has the discretionary powers to remove or maintain whoever he wants from office and in office, but it doesn’t lie in the mouth of a retired police commissioner to incite the public and officers of the noble profession to violently attack and remove their boss from office unlawfully regardless of the circumstances. In my candid opinion the retired commissioner of police must retract his comments and apologize to the Inspector General of Police who is serving the country and not a political party”.
He further accused the retired senior Police Officer for attacking the IGP for partisan reasons.
“He must not be seen engaging and encouraging or aiding as well as collaborating with some disgruntled officers to embark on unlawful conduct against the Inspector General of Police and the Ghana Police Service in general.
“This act of defiance and violence must not be tolerated since it amounts to a threat against the life of the noble Inspector General of Police”.
