Akim Oda Zongo came alive with a renewed sense of hope as Birim Charity Organisation, in partnership with Sharjah Charity International carried out its bi-annual disbursement under the Orphan Support Program.
The initiative, which stems from a longstanding partnership agreement signed in 2018 between stakeholders in Accra and Sharjah, continues to provide critical assistance to over 700 orphans across five regions in Ghana.
The program is aimed at supporting some of the country’s most vulnerable populations with financial stipends to cater for basic needs such as food and clothing.
Since its establishment in 2017, Birim Charity has remained committed to alleviating poverty and hunger, operating from its base in Akim Oda in the Eastern Region.
“Our vision is to see these children properly integrated into a community where healthcare, nutrition, and education are accessible to all,” leadership of the organization stated during the event.

The disbursement exercise drew strong support from community leaders, stressing the importance of local collaboration in sustaining social interventions. Representatives of the Zongo Chiefs, including the Gonja and Hausa traditional leaders of the Akim Oda Zongo communities were present to witness the exercise.
Also in attendance was Ayuba Nuhu, Assembly Member for the Kyeremin Number 2 electoral area, representing the Birim Central Assembly. His participation underscored the role of local government in complementing the efforts of non-governmental organizations in addressing social challenges.
The programme was led by Project Manager and Director Tawfik Prah Meekail, supported by a dedicated field team, while overall supervision was provided by Chairman Sheikh Meekail I. Prah.
Their leadership has been key in sustaining the partnership with the UAE-based charity.
As the initiative continues to expand, Birim Charity is emerging as a beacon of hope in the Eastern Region, demonstrating that strong international partnerships, backed by local commitment, can make a meaningful difference in breaking the cycle of poverty.
