Former Member of Parliament for Sissala East, Amidu Chinnia, has accused the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deliberately delaying the passage of the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill despite holding a parliamentary majority.
Speaking in an interview with Joshua Kodjo Mensah on GH Today on GHOne TV on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Amidu Chinnia argued that Parliament has the capacity to fast-track legislation within a single day.
“Today, you are in government, you have a majority in Parliament, and you have passed bills in a day,” he said.
Amidu Chinnia noted that similar legislative processes have been completed within a day in the past. “Some bills have been passed in a day… they take you through all the procedures,” he added.
According to him, the Anti-LGBTQ+ bill should not face delays, as it has already undergone prior processes. “This LGBTQ bill is something that was already passed, so you are just bringing it back to Parliament to go through the procedure,” he stated.

He maintained that the bill could be swiftly approved and assented to by the President. “You can pass it in a day, and the President will sign,” he said. “Why are they not doing it?” He further questioned the delay.
The former MP emphasised that the delay is unjustified given Parliament’s demonstrated ability to expedite legislation when necessary.
