Asanteman youth groups to demonstrate over unfulfilled promises

The Asante Traditional and professional Youth Associations in the Ashanti region are set to demonstrate against the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government over the failure to rehabilitate Kumasi town roads.

According to the youth groups, the current government has taken the region for granted despite the massive support the ruling party benefited from the area in the 2016 general elections.

Speaking to Ultimate FM’s Isaac Bediako, Tweneboah Kuduah, Secretary of the Asante Youth Association said prior to election 2016, the NPP capitalised on the loyalty of the residents to the party and made juicy promises including constructions of all Kumasi ring roads among others.

However, almost three years of the ruling government’s stay in office, the region is yet to see any significant change in the region as far as infrastructural development is concerned.

“After all our pains taken investigation into road construction contract awarded in Kumasi, not One Ghana Cedis (Ghc.1.00) has been given to any of the contractors. However in other regions the contractors have been given founds to work with” he said.

The groups made up of Asante Youth Association (AYA), Asante Development Union (ADU), Kumasi Youth Association (KUYA), Adanse Youth Association warn they won’t give politicians anymore chance  to take Ashanti region for granted.

“We mean business this time all the developmental projects initiated by former president John Dramani Mahama remain unattended to and I can talk about Afari Military Hospital, Sawua, Kumawu, Tepa, Konongo, Bekwai, and formena hospital projects are all there harbouring reptiles. Enough is enough we can’t allow state investments to go waste in the region while the projects are in their incomplete states,” he warned.

He stressed the demonstration is not political and every resident of the region is at liberty to join the group on Friday 27th September, 2019.

“This demonstration is unpolitical I’m active NPP member I contested national organizer position of the ruling party. I know the NPP will be affected by our demonstration but it’s a necessary evil which will help Asanteman. When I go to Suame Magazine the spare parts dealers there do not ask my party card before they sell to me. So I expect massive patronage in this demonstration,” he lamented.
