The Ghana Railway Development Authority (GRDA) has confirmed that its General Manager in charge of passenger service operations at Tema was assaulted on Tuesday evening, November 11, 2025, shortly after one of its trains was attacked by unidentified individuals.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 12, the Authority said the manager was attacked on his way home at Ashaiman after a group of people hurled stones at a moving train, DMU2, operating near Tema earlier in the day.
“The General Manager (GM) of the passenger service operations at Tema, a dedicated member of our team, was assaulted on his way home at Ashaiman. He is currently receiving medical care, and the Authority is offering full support to him and his family during this time,” the statement read.
The Authority described the two incidents as “deeply disturbing” and warned that such acts of violence and vandalism endanger not only railway staff and passengers but also the integrity of national transport infrastructure.
“These acts of violence and vandalism are not isolated. They reflect a troubling pattern that threatens the safety of railway personnel and infrastructure and undermines the safety of our national transport system,” it added.
GRDA said it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to investigate the incidents and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
As part of immediate safety measures, the Authority announced that all unauthorized occupants and structures along railway lines are to vacate the premises immediately.
“We are issuing a formal directive for all unauthorized occupants and structures along the railway lines to vacate the premises. Eviction processes will begin immediately,” it stated.
The GRDA urged the public to respect the railway corridor and support efforts to maintain a safe and reliable railway system.
