Be Innovative and ethical in your work- Dr Fenuku

The Director of Ghana Institute of Languages, a constituent Institute of the University of Media Arts and Communication (UMAC), Dr. Samson Dodzi Fenuku, has challenged newly recruited staff to be innovative, productive while upholding the ethics of the teaching and administrative profession.

The Director made the call during an orientation programme for staff who were recently recruited to augment teaching and learning.

According to him, the Institute’s mandate is to teach both local and foreign languages, as well as, advise government on language policies in order to be connected to the globe.

Dr. Fenuku urged the staff to work hard in all their endeavours to train the needed human resources for the socioeconomic development of the country.  “As a team, we have limitless potential in terms of the impact we make on our students and on society. There is no way the Institute can advance to the highest ideals of what a public institution of higher learning should be without the help of its staff, it all begins with the human resource”. The breadth of opportunities in this Institute is unmatched and your expertise and commitment will help unearth the potentials and place Ghana Institute of Languages in its rightful place in terms of tertiary education in the country, he added.

Dr. Samson Dodzi Fenuku, again advised newly appointed staff of the Ghana Institute of Languages to abide by the rules, regulations and ethics of the Institute to help achieve its mandate and vision. Dr. Fenuku, while congratulating the new appointees and acknowledging the contribution they would bring to the institute’s effort to achieve its mandate, however, cautioned the new appointees of the consequences in case of breach of ethics and culture of the Institute.

The Director further urged the new staff to have a firm grasp of the basics of work and be aware of the general duties in order to contribute greatly through their work activities. “After the human resource, rules define the culture of the institution, therefore every staff is expected to obey them accordingly. In any case of violation, our ethics and culture would be diminished and anyone found guilty of this would have to face the full rigors of the law governing the Institute”, he said.

Dr. Samson Dodzi Fenuku however conscientized the fresh appointees to seize every opportunity to upgrade themselves with new skills to excel at their new job.

Dr. Fenuku further urged the new staff to stay levelheaded and seek personal growth. He indicated that if they are aimless, time will pass very quickly and they may be left behind. He reminded them of the Institute’s dedication to its mission and culture of striving to meet the vision of becoming a world class Institute of excellence, he said.

Other presenters at the orientation programme were the Registrar, Mr. Joel Asiedu, the Finance Officer, Mr. Prince Eric Amasu and the Internal Auditor Mr. Bernard Anagu. The rest were the Head of Academic Affairs, Mr. Eric Osei Kwakye, Welfare Issues, Mr. Francis Agbley and Unionism, Mr. Stephen Cato as well as some other staff of the Institute.
