Authorities at the Cape Coast Technical University (CCTU) have rolled out measures aimed at strengthening the fight against the coronavirus in the metropolis.

The move, according to the authorities is to support efforts by government in dealing with devastating nature of the virus by curtailing potential spread in the metropolis.

Authorities also donated 1,000 nose masks to the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly to support the COVID-19 fight in the area .

What makes these masks unique is the fact that they are easily washable, were made from quality materials with range of colours, and again were produced by the fashion and designing department of the Cape Coast Technical University thereby boosting the country’s local content production drive.

The central regional capital has so far recorded a positive case of COVID-19 necessitating that efforts are doubled to curb a potential spread of the virus in the metropolis and region as a whole.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the Metropolitan Assembly, Rt. Rev. Ing. Prof. Joshua Danso Owusu-Sekyere who is the CCTU Vice Chancellor indicated that the University has been exploring measures that will help in curtaining the spread of the COVID-19 in the metropolis and country as a whole.

He explained that the measures are yielding results as the schoolhas been able to come up with a a prompting device based on sensors which will conscientiously alert members of the public to wash their hands under water before entering any office or edifice.

He indicated that the signalling device which was a joint effort of students and staff of the university will go a long way in dealing with insanitary situations that could cause the spread of the COVID-19 as people will be reminded to wash their hands to improve their personal safety.

”These prompting devices will be installed at the entrance of institutions and offices so that even before you enter the structure , the device will signal you to wash your hands under water so that people don’t forget to do so thereby erasing such conditions that could easily cause the spread of the virus. The device will be launched soonest so that it could be adopted to deal with the coronavirus spread in the country ” he stated.

On his part, the Metropolitan Chief Executive for Cape Coast , Hon. Ernest Arthur thanked the authorities of Cape Coast Technical University for their kind gesture.

He indicated that the donation will indeed go a long way in dealing with situations which could give birth to the spread of the virus in the area as the metropolis has already recorded one positive case of COVID-19.

He stressed that efforts have been doubled to curtail spread of the virus in the metropolis as already his office has donated over 2,000 Veronica buckets and hand sanitizers in the metropolis especially at the markets in making sure that people observe good hygiene.

”The technical university has given as 1,000 masks and it is going to be amazing for our fight against COVID-19. We are so grateful to CCTU” he stated.

He indicated that the assembly is still exploring other avenues which could enrich the measures already rolled out and as such the office will not hesitate to take advantage of the sensing devices to be introduced by the technical university to constantly remind the people of the need to ensure proper sanitary conditions especially hand washing and the use of sanitizers.

In a related development , sanitation giants Zoomlion has extended its disinfection exercise to the Cape Coast Coast Technical University(CCTU).

The exercise did not only see the lecture halls and compounds of the university disinfected but also the various offices and university hall.

This according to Zoomlion is aimed at ridding the campus of any conditions that could give birth to the spread of the COVID-19 on the campus thereby making the place conducive for academic work to resume in due time.

The Vice Chancellor of the university Rt. Rev. Ing Prof. Joshua Owusu-Sekyere lauded Zoomlion for their benevolent gesture as it has enhanced the sanitary conditions at the university to support academic work even as the country deals with the effect of the COVID-19.

He stressed that the technical university will build on the work done by the officers from Zoomlion in making sure that the campus is always safe and free from conditions that could cause the spread of the virus on the campus.

He also appealed to students of the technical university to take advantage of online learning platforms initiated to support academic work so that the academic work goes on smoothly despite the COVID-19 spread and associated lockdown.
