Chief of Akyem Akroso refutes claims of assault on PeaceFM presenter

Nana Kwabena Ofori II, the Chief of Akyem Akroso in the Eastern Region, has strongly denied allegations of an assault on Michael Botwe, a popular presenter from Accra-based Peace FM, known as “Micky the Double Darling”.

The incident reportedly occurred during a durbar to climax the Atwea festival in the community.

Additionally, the Chief has cleared Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei, a parliamentary aspirant representing the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Asene Manso Akroso constituency, of any involvement in the reported assault on the radio presenter.

Mr. Adjei was accused in the media of reports of leading a group of individuals to attack Micky Darling, who was serving as the Master of Ceremonies (MC) for the festival.

The reported altercation appears to have arisen due to a misunderstanding, as Micky Darling refused to acknowledge the presence of Mr. Adjei, similar to how he treated the Member of Parliament for the area, George Kwame Aboagye, and the District Chief Executive.

Moreover, he seemed hesitant to allow Mr. Adjei to speak during the event, arguing that he was not listed as a speaker on the program. When Mr. Adjei was eventually given the opportunity to address the audience, Micky Darling allegedly interjected multiple times, insisting that he immediately mention his donation in support of a fundraising effort for a health project.

Mr. Adjei, in response to these interjections, cut his speech short to make a donation of Ghc10,000.

However, this action did not sit well with some of Mr. Adjei’s supporters, who questioned the MC’s behavior.

It is important to note that Micky Darling has also denied being assaulted by Mr. Alex Adjei and his associates.

During a media briefing on Monday, October 24, 2023, the Chief of Akyem Akroso Nana Kwabena Ofori II acknowledged that they were all unhappy with the conduct of the MC but clarified that he was not physically assaulted.

The Chief of Akyem Akroso, made a resolute statement, assuring that he would never allow anyone to harm a journalist within his jurisdiction.

He emphasized his deep appreciation for the important role that journalists play as the fourth estate of the realm and crucial partners in development.

Solomon Obeng Asante, the campaign manager for Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei, asserted that the entire incident might have been politically orchestrated to tarnish Mr. Alex Owusu Adjei’s hard-earned reputation because of politics.

Then, the MC was brought to the program by the MP to execute his agenda.

He said regardless of the various plots against Mr. Alex Adjei, CEO of Power Hydraulics Limited, and  current chairman of the cashew Buyers and Exporters Association of Ghana, he will win the parliamentary primaries in Asene-Manso-Akroso constituency to continue fronting for development and job creation for the youth.
