The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has given law firm Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners until November 6, 2026, to submit nine years of financial, tax and operational records as part of investigations involving its senior partner, Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
In a letter dated October 30, 2026, EOCO requested audited financial statements and evidence of tax payments made to the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) between 2017 and 2025.
The Office is also demanding details of all bank accounts operated by the firm, corresponding bank statements, operating permits and renewal records, as well as a list of employees, if any.
The tax documents being sought include records relating to Corporate Tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), levies and withholding tax.
The request was made pursuant to Section 19 of the Economic and Organised Crime Office Act, 2010 (Act 804).
“Kindly furnish the Office with the underlisted information for the period 2017 to 2025 to facilitate our investigations,” the letter stated.
EOCO further directed the firm to ensure that the documents reach its office by November 6.
“Your response is expected to reach the undersigned by 6th November, 2026,” it added.
The latest request comes weeks after EOCO arrested Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, who is also a Member of Parliament, following his voluntary appearance at the agency’s headquarters on October 1, 2026.
His arrest followed an attempted operation by EOCO officials at the Accra High Court on September 23 and a subsequent arrest warrant issued by the High Court on September 30.
The investigations concern allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters.
In an earlier statement, EOCO said Mr. Baffour Awuah’s appearance followed several months of efforts to secure his attendance before investigators.
The Office confirmed that he was subsequently arrested after the necessary investigative and operational procedures commenced.
“In accordance with those procedures, Mr. Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO stated.
He was subsequently granted GH¢10 million bail by the High Court on October 3, 2026, with two sureties, both of whom are Members of Parliament.
He pleaded not guilty to three charges, including conspiracy to commit a crime, dissipation of public funds and intentionally causing financial loss to the state.
The investigation is linked to financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans and legal recovery work undertaken by Sarkodie Baffour Awuah and Partners.
The MP’s defence has maintained that his former law firm was engaged by SIC Life Savings and Loans to recover approximately GH¢3.5 million invested with Equity Savings and Loans.
According to the defence, the investment and accrued interest eventually rose to about GH¢14 million, before a negotiated settlement resulted in the recovery of approximately GH¢8 million.
His lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, has challenged the prosecution’s characterisation of the transaction, maintaining that the settlement arose from legitimate commercial and legal processes.
