The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on rival factions within the party to put their differences aside and unite as preparations begin for Ghana’s 2028 General Election.
Speaking after the swearing in of the newly elected national executives on 3rd October, he said the party’s internal elections were over, and members should now focus on rebuilding and returning the NPP to power.
“Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028.
“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.
He also urged candidates who lost in the national executive elections not to see themselves as defeated, stressing that the party needed their participation ahead of the 2028 election.
“You did not lose. The NPP won,” Dr Bawumia said, adding that all those who contested would be involved in the party’s campaign for 2028.
He said the newly elected leadership had been given a clear mandate by delegates to work towards returning the party to power and warned that there was no time to waste.
“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.
Dr Bawumia also cautioned that achieving the party’s 2028 objective would require hard work, saying the NPP would have to work harder than it had done in previous elections.
“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said.
The over 7,000 delegates of the NPP descended on the Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi, tasked with electing executives to fill 9 portfolios out of 47 contestants cleared to compete in the party’s national executive elections.
