Yaa Serwaa, the nine-year-old girl who drowned in a swimming pool in a Hotel in Koforidua, has been laid to rest in a solemn ceremony on Saturday morning.

A brief burial service was held at the mortuary of the Eastern Regional Hospital, officiated by the local branch of The Church of Pentecost, where Yaa Serwaa and her family worshipped.

Amidst heart-wrenching wails from the bereaved family members, church congregants, and sympathizers, the young girl’s body was conveyed to the cemetery for final interment.

Investigations by Starr News have uncovered startling circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning of a nine-year-old girl, Yaa Serwaa, at the Hotel’s swimming pool in on December 29, 2024.

The girl’s father, popularly known as Prophet Kwame Boadi, reportedly arrived at the hotel with a female companion and five children.

The bar attendant who was on duty informed the family that the lifeguards were not present at the time but the father insisted some of the children are skilled in swimming and therefore should be allowed.

While some of the children were authorized to swim, Yaa Serwaa, who did not know how to swim, remained seated near a guest table by the poolside with her father and the female guest.

At some point, the father claimed he lost sight of the girl and later found her unconscious in the pool.

Despite being rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital, she passed away shortly after admission.

However, a video that surfaced after the incident shows the father and his female guest taking videos of Yaa Serwaa in a swimming costume interacting with her siblings, who were in the pool.

The footage captured moments of the siblings attempting to pull her and one other child into the pool.

Police in Effiduase have taken over the investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the tragic incident.

In a statement, the management of the Hotel expressed condolences to the bereaved family and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining high safety standards.

“We assure all patrons that our measures remain thorough, robust, and consistent with industry best practices. At all material times, there has been no lapse in the hotel’s safety protocols or standards of care,” the statement read.

The hotel also confirmed its full cooperation with police and other relevant authorities, pledging to assist in bringing clarity to the case.

The Hotel emphasized its dedication to professionalism and excellence, encouraging patrons to continue enjoying its services.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a safe environment and quality service for all our guests,” the statement concluded.

This is the first incident of its kind since the hotel’s opening in 2020.

Management has vowed to enhance safety protocols while supporting the bereaved family and authorities during this difficult period.
