The management of Tonyx Hotel in Koforidua has reassured patrons of its commitment to maintaining robust safety measures following the tragic drowning of a nine-year-old girl, Yaa Serwaa, at the hotel’s poolside on Sunday, December 29, 2024.
In a statement, the hotel management extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
Starr News investigation revealed that Yaa Serwaa, a pupil of Trinity Presbyterian Basic School, visited the poolside with her father, a Prophet, siblings, and a family friend. While only two siblings were authorized to swim, Yaa Serwaa sat with her father and others near a guest table by the poolside.
Her father lost track of her for a few minutes and later discovered her unconscious in the pool.
She was immediately rescued and rushed to the Eastern Regional Hospital, but pronounced dead on arrival.
In its statement, the hotel reaffirmed its adherence to high safety standards, emphasizing: “As an establishment dedicated to the highest levels of professionalism, we assure all patrons that our measures remain thorough, robust, and consistent with industry best practices. We further affirm that, at all material times, there has been no lapse in the hotel’s safety protocols or standards of care.”
Tonyx Hotel confirmed it is cooperating fully with the police and other relevant authorities to ensure a swift and thorough investigation into the incident.
The hotel encouraged patrons to continue enjoying its services, adding: “We remain steadfast in our dedication to professionalism and excellence in serving our guests. We encourage our valued patrons to continue enjoying the quality services and safe environment we have consistently provided.”
This tragic incident marks the first of its kind since the hotel’s establishment in 2020.
Management has pledged to uphold its safety protocols while assisting the bereaved family and authorities during this difficult time.
