The Electoral Commission (EC) has issued revised guidelines for media accreditation, enabling journalists with accreditation for polling stations to also access Constituency and Regional Collation Centres. This adjustment, which takes effect on Saturday, December 7, 2024, follows extensive internal discussions and consultations with key media stakeholders.
In a statement signed by Benjamin Bano-Bioh, Director for Electoral Services, the EC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency and accountability in the electoral process. “The revised media accreditation aims to provide media personnel with greater flexibility and access to key Election Centres,” the statement read. “This change reflects our commitment to ensuring that the media can effectively cover the electoral process.”
The updated policy simplifies access for journalists, allowing them to use the same photo accreditation cards previously issued for polling stations to cover proceedings at Constituency and Regional Collation Centres. This move is expected to enhance media reporting on the collation of results, a critical aspect of Ghana’s democratic process.
The EC further assured the public and the media that arrangements for accessing the National Collation Centre would be communicated in due course.
With this initiative, the EC continues to underscore its dedication to openness and collaboration with the media, recognizing their role as a bridge between the electoral process and the citizens of Ghana.
