The Ghana Football Association could be fined by FIFA for the late submission of a new venue for the world Cup Play-off against Nigeria, following the directive from the NSA to change their venue from Cape Coast to either the Accra or Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The National Sports Authority yesterday wrote to the Sports Ministry to inform them of government’s decision to host this year’s 65th independence celebration at the Cape Coast Stadium, a facility which has already been submitted to CAF by the GFA to host the World Cup Play-off match between March 23-29. The GFA is yet to take a decision on where the play-off will be played as Starr Sports can confirm that the date for change of venue elapsed weeks ago. But Speaking to Starr FM Sports, NSA Boss, Peter Twumasi insists the independence celebration is equally important.
“The independence celebration is very key and because it’s happening in the central region, Cape Coast sports stadium have been booked. A lot of things go into the preparation for the Independence day celebrations. We have to even close down the stadium for the military drills and all the other things they have to do prior to the celebration. After the celebration we have to move the heavy equipments that we used from the pitch and it will take time for the pitch to be restored back for football… so it’s a place we cannot use for the match but we have very good alternatives, Accra sports stadium is there and Baba Yara sports stadium is also excellent” Peter Twumasi said.
