Hearing of an injunction application filed by Kumasi-based King Faisal FC against the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) election processes has been adjourned to September 19.
This was because Her Ladyship Justice Marian Affoh, sitting as the vacation judge, was unavailable when the matter came up and the parties agreed on the date.
In a virtual court session, on Wednesday, September 6, Alhaji Karim Grusah Ahmed, the bankroller of King Faisal FC was present for the applicant while Prosper Harrison Addo, the General Secretary of the GFA represented the Respondent.
King Faisal FC per the legal representation was led by Lawyer John Kwame Quayson while Edem Duncan Nuhoho was led by Naa Odofoley Nortey as lawyers for the GFA.
The parties after consulting their diaries agreed to come back on September 19, after the Ghana Bar Conference scheduled for September 11, 2023 hoping the judge would be available that day.
The elections of the GFA executive scheduled for September 27, this month, and its 2023 Election timetable have been temporarily put on hold after King Faisal FC initiated a legal action against the process.
The applicant, King Faisal, per the injunction filed in August, argued that commencing the elections with the Presidential race between Kurt Okraku and George Afriyie is wrong and contrary to the association’s statutes.
Based on this, the Kumasi-based club filed an application for injunction to prevent the GFA from conducting the upcoming Presidential elections scheduled for September 27 in Tamale until the required elections for representatives from the Executive Council, Regional Football Association, and other related groups have been conducted correctly.
The Election Committee has since not made public the outcome of the vetting of aspirants due to the injunction.
