The Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) has agreed to pay GHc100,000 to the Professional Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Ghana (PAPNG) by March 28, 2025, as part of an out-of-court settlement.
This payment is being made as a “gesture of good faith” to resolve a lawsuit filed by PAPNG against GRNMA and four other defendants.
PAPNG had alleged that GRNMA engaged in a “persistent series of conduct” designed to sabotage their operations, including obstructing their certification and onboarding process.
They claimed that GRNMA’s actions violated statutory provisions requiring consultation and participation from other unions.
As part of the lawsuit, PAPNG sought a declaration that a collective agreement negotiated by GRNMA on their behalf was null and void.
They also requested an award of GHc1 million against GRNMA for violating their economic rights under the 1992 Constitution.
However, instead of proceeding with the lawsuit, the parties opted for an out-of-court settlement, which has been adopted by the court as a consent judgment.
In the terms of settlement adopted by the Court as a consent judgement, the parties agreed that GRNMA “As a gesture of goodwill and good faith, “shall in conclusive settlement of this suit give a sum of One Hundred Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS 100,000.00) to PAPNG on or before the 28th day of March 2025.”
The Consent judgment was adopted by the Labour Division of the High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Enyonam Adinyira on January 20, 2025.
