The Management of the Ghana Water Company Limited and board chair Alexander Afenyo-Markin have met former President JJ Rawlings over his recent allegations against the board chairman.

Mr. Rawlings at a recent event in Kumasi called for the interdiction of Mr. Afenyo-Markin, who he claims, is being investigated by the Special Prosecutor over some financial impropriety at the state company.

However, at the meeting, the board chair who is also the MP for Effutu, said the alleged financial malfeasance predates his time in office.

Mr. Rawlings in reaction noted: ” he had heard and understands where the Board Chairman was coming from and urged the company to take advantage of the opportunity of the meeting to clarify publicly, details of the said matter under investigation and mention the specific timelines to sanitize the records, pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Prosecutor”.

RAWLINGS RECEIVES AFENYO-MARKIN,  WATER COMPANY DELEGATION

The Board Chairman of Ghana Water Company, Alexander Afenyo-Markin called on former President Jerry John Rawlings on Tuesday afternoon, to discuss matters arising out of a statement by the former President on allegations of impropriety at the company.

Accompanied by the  company’s Managing Director, Clifford Braimah, Hon. Afenyo-Markin who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu in the Central Region, informed the former President that while there was a petition before the Special Prosecutor, the tenure of the matter in question occurred in 2016 under the previous Board of the company.

Former President Rawlings said he had heard and understands where the Board Chairman was coming from and urged the company to take advantage of the opportunity of the meeting to clarify publicly, details of the said matter under investigation and mention the specific timelines to sanitize the records, pending the outcome of investigations by the Special Prosecutor.

Former President Rawlings took the opportunity to enquire about the progress of proposals for Ghana Water to provide water to parts of Togo, a discussion that has been ongoing between the two countries “for too long”. Managing Director Clifford Braimah confirmed that a feasibility report on the arrangement had been completed and work to seek financiers for the project will commence soon. As part of the proposal to provide water to Togo, all communities along the route within Ghana are expected to benefit from the provision of water from the utility company.

Other members of the Ghana Water delegation were  Alex Bonney, a member of the Board and Peter De-Veer, Deputy Managing Director (Special Projects).
