The leadership of the Kejetia and the Racecourse markets in Kumasi in the Ashanti regional Capital, Kumasi have presented cash amounts of Two Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand Cedis to the Management of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital responsible for the Heal Komfo Anokye Project responsible for renovating the premier health facility through fundraising.

The Heal Komfo Anokye Project management has a target of raising 10 million US dollars through fundraising activities.

The donation received by the Chief Executive Officer at KATH, Professor Otchere Addai-Mensah was part of the market women contribution towards the renovation of the 50 year old Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital wards and blocks which has not seen any major renovation since construction.

Mrs. Yaa Foriwaah, Market Queen at the Kejetia and Central Markets presented GhC 100, 000.00 as her group’s gesture towards the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II led renovation project.

She said “Komfo Anokye Hospital is our home. If you don’t come here alive you will come here dead. We cannot leave the renovation project on Otumfuo alone. Therefore, we solicited funds from the market to support Otumfuo and Asantehene. I’m begging everyone in Kumasi to donate to support the project’’.

Nanahemaa Kyeiwaa, Market Queen at the racecourse market at Bantama similarly presented a cash amount of Gh120,000.00 to the hospital management.

She explained “We paid our widow’s mite during the grand durbar where other individuals and organizations donated money towards the project and we are determined to support KATH every day since this is our hospital”, Nana Kyeiwaah stated.

Chief executive for the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Professor Addai-Mensah commended the two market groups for their gesture toward the project realization.

Sammy Adu-Boakye, Chairman of the fundraising committee explains the lack of space to relocate patients already on admission to the facility is slowing down the whole project.

Nevertheless, he said” they will not rush to take decisions that will affect quality health delivery in the facility for the sake of renovation.
