Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has presented $1.5 million worth of equipment to the Ga North Municipal Hospital, as a follow-up to his surprise visits to health facilities.
Speaking during the presentation, the minister explained that the gesture was informed by challenges he observed during an earlier unannounced visit to the hospital.
He emphasized that it was his understanding that the facility had begun operations without receiving adequate government support, despite the growing demands on its services.

The items, numbering more than 30, include technical machines, incubators, hospital beds, and other vital medical equipment. According to the minister, the aim is to ensure the hospital is better resourced to meet the healthcare needs of the community.
“We are presenting to this particular hospital, and it is our hope that they will take good care of these equipment,” Mr. Akandoh said.
The donation, he stressed, forms part of the government’s broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery across the country.

The Ga North Municipal Hospital, located at Ofankor in the Greater Accra Region, was commissioned in October 2020 as part of the government’s agenda to expand access to quality healthcare in newly created municipalities.

The facility was built to serve a fast-growing population and offers services including maternity, pediatrics, surgery, laboratory, and general outpatient care.
However, since its opening, health professionals have frequently complained about inadequate equipment, which has affected service delivery and led to referrals to neighboring facilities such as Ga East Municipal Hospital and Achimota Hospital.
