Nigerian Journalist and publisher, Chief Dele Momodu has disclosed that he does support his country’s president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu although he remains a patriotic citizen.
In an interview on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, the businessman drew attention to the fact that he belonged to a different political party, while insisting he abided by certain “principles”.
He said he used to be friends with President Tinubu who won the Nigerian presidential election last year on the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“My loyalty is first to the nation, not to my personal friends. For example, [I did not support] the president in Nigeria today yet, he was one of my best friends. I am not in his party. Because I don’t believe in certain principles, I just leave it,” he said during the conversation on Starr FM.
He continued: “If tomorrow someone wanted to attack him unnecessarily, I will fight on his behalf but politically, I am a member of the PDP [People’s Democratic Party] and he is a member of APC so I am not going to jump suddenly because he is the president of Nigeria.”
Comparing Nigerian politics to the Ghanaian political landscape, he revealed he knew former President Nana Akufo-Addo long before he became friends with President John Mahama.
The journalist was attempting to dispel claims that he had sympathies for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
He made clear he had “no business” with any political party in Ghana, reminding listeners that he did not have the right to vote in Ghanaian elections.
Chief Momodu insisted that he remained committed to supporting any president for the sake of development.
