The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the Capitation Grant for the first term of the 2026/2027 academic year, transferring the funds to the accounts of District Education Directorates for onward disbursement to schools.
In a circular dated 16 October 2026 and signed by Deputy Director-General (Quality and Access), Dr. Munawaru Issahaque on behalf of the Director-General, the Service informed all Regional Directors of Education that the funds have already been credited to the various district accounts.
The transfer includes the Sports and Culture component allocated to District Offices.
The Capitation Grant remains a key government intervention supporting the free compulsory universal basic education policy by providing schools with resources for teaching and learning materials, minor repairs, and other operational needs.
Regional Sports and Culture components have been sent separately to the designated accounts of the Regional Education Offices.
Regional Directors have been directed to ensure that the funds reach schools on or before Friday, 30 October 2026; the deadline is intended to allow Heads of Basic Schools to operate without disruption as the term progresses.
“A monitoring team from GES Headquarters will visit the regions in the first week of November 2026 to verify that the grants have been properly disbursed,” management said.
Management urged Regional Directors to prioritise the transfers and counted on their cooperation to ensure smooth implementation.
