The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and members of the Police Management Board have lauded staff of the Police Hospital in Accra for their exceptional dedication to public service during the ongoing nationwide strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
During a working visit to the hospital on Saturday, 13th April 2025, the IGP expressed appreciation to the hospital’s leadership and personnel for effectively managing the dramatic surge in patients who sought medical care amid the strike.
Receiving the IGP and his delegation, the Medical Director of the Police Hospital, Commissioner of Police Dr Otu Nyarko, revealed that the facility had recorded a more than 300% increase in patient attendance over the past week. Similar reports were noted from the Police Hospital in Kumasi and other Police clinics nationwide.

Despite the overwhelming numbers, Dr Nyarko explained that contingency plans were activated to handle the pressure. “All doctors on annual and study leave were recalled to duty to ensure no patient in need of care was turned away,” he stated.
Mr Yohuno praised the medical team for their professionalism and commitment during such a critical national moment, encouraging both officers and civilian staff to maintain their dedication to saving lives and delivering essential medical care.
He also highlighted the timely opening of the new Police Hospital in Kumasi, noting its importance in easing pressure on other facilities. The IGP assured staff of the Police Administration’s continued support in enhancing service delivery across all Police health institutions.
