Wood World Mission, a Charity Wing of Power Center Church, UK has cut sod for the construction of ultra-modern vocational and technical school complex in Koforidua Asokore in the Eastern Region at a cost of GH¢1.5 million.

The project is an extension of a Basic School already established by the Wood World Mission with current enrolment population of about 400 pupils made up of orphans and needy children enjoying fee-free tuition.

The sod cutting for the construction of the school complex was done over the weekend alongside the commissioning of a one storey Junior High School Building and graduation of KP pupils.

Speaking to Starr News, Bishop Mrs Mercy Wood, Co-founder of Wood World Mission said technical and vocational education is critical to bridge the unemployment gap.

According to her, for Ghana to meet the technical expertise demand of the job market, there is the need to strengthen the skills training education in the country. That, she said necessitated the construction of the Koforidua ultra-modern vocational and technical school complex to offer technical skills training to the students.

Wood World Mission operates in Ghana, Uganda, Malawi, Congo, Nigeria, South Africa and other countries. In Ghana, the Mission operates a school in Akosombo and Asokore-Koforidua. Ace musician Fuse ODG recently pledged to financially support the Akosombo branch of the school to expand to Senior High School and University.

The founder and General Overseer of Wood World Missions & Power Centre Church – UK, Bishop Dr William Wood, said the mission’s schools aim at providing quality education according to international standard to the less privileged in society to end the quagmire of poverty, particularly in Africa.

According to him, he is very impressed with the progress made by the Basic school and the academic feat achieved just a year after the establishment of the school.

Meanwhile, Black Panther, a philanthropist partly funding the vocational and technical education project also promised to purchase school bus for the school.
