Security analyst Adam Bonaa has condemned cases of police and militaries brutalities against citizens on the first day of the lockdown in Accra and Kumasi.

There are footages of police and military men punishing residents of the two cities who failed to adhere to the lockdown directive by the President.

Speaking to Starr News, Mr Bonaa said such footages are shameful.

“They are disgraceful, shameful and should not be happening especially under a democratic dispensation like ours. I was thinking there was going to be some education for the personnel before they set out so such things will not be happening,” he said.

The Eastern Regional Police Command has mounted seven (7) special checkpoints across the region to block persons escaping from partial lockdown areas into the region.

The checkpoints are on; Kwahu Fodua – Kumasi-Accra- Koforidua road( at FODUA), Bunso Junction – Bunso-Osiem-Koforidua road(at BUNSO), Akwadum roundabout – Suhum -Koforidua (at AKWADUM RA.), Mile 50 – Aburi-Koforidua-Okorase road. (at MILE50)
, Asikuma junction-Accra- Akosombo-Ho (at ASIKUMA JUNC), Accra-Nsawam- Kumasi road(at NSAWAM), and Accra-Kitase-Aburi-Akropong road(at ABURI).

According to the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, the move is to prevent the influx of people from Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi to the region.

As of March 30, 28 suspected coronavirus cases in the region have tested negative. Test for the latest case is underway at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medicine Research.

Nationally, Ghana has recorded 152 confirmed cases of Coronavirus with five (5) fatalities as of March 29,2020. The first confirmed case was recorded in March 13, 2020.

President of Ghana Akufo Addo on Friday, March 27, 2020, announced partial lockdown of the Nation’s Capital-Accra and Parts of Ashanti Region as an enhanced measure to prevent increasing community spread having closed down all Borders -Land,sea and Air space.
