President John Dramani Mahama has directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritise the rehabilitation of critical farming and feeder roads under the government’s $10 billion Big Push infrastructure programme.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour at Sefwi Juabuso in the Western North Region, the President acknowledged concerns from farmers and residents about deteriorating road conditions, stressing their importance to national productivity.
“I’ve heard your concerns about the roads connecting our farming communities and our markets. These roads are vital arteries for moving cocoa, timber, food products, and people across our country. They are not a luxury; they are a necessity,” he said.

“I’ve directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritise these roads and return contractors to sites to work without further delay,” he stated.

According to President Mahama, Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has also confirmed that funds are available for the projects and that contractors will be paid within two weeks of submitting certificates.
He assured the public that the reconstruction of roads such as Enchi, Elubo, Dadeso, Acuantumra, Ajuafua, Osei, Kodokoro, Seshiboikwa, Asankragua, and several feeder roads in Sui, Bosunkwanta, Bonzan, Essam, and Bia West had been fully captured under the Big Push agenda.
The President explained that the programme will commit at least $2 billion annually to infrastructure, beginning with the 2025 budget.
“If we start the Big Push and we cut sod, if the contractor is not working, it’s not because we’re not paying him. Then there must be something else wrong,” he cautioned.
The President reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that infrastructure supports national development and uplifts rural communities.
