The Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Agyei Awatey has assured that Mahama- led NDC government will ensure equity in the distribution of development and opportunities to Zango communities in the region.
According to the Minister, the government will ensure that schorlaship opportunities will be granted to young men and women in Muslim communities to study abroad , aiming to build the human capital for economic and social development .
The Minister expressed concern over development deficit in Zango communities attributing it to discrimination in distribution of developmental infrastructure under the previous administration.
She assured the Council of Muslim Chiefs that President John Mahama prioritizes the needs of Zango communities ,and will address key challenges facing them particularly- deplorable road network in the Koforidua Zango.
The Minister said this when she donated foot items worth thousands of cedis to the Council of Muslim Chiefs in Koforidua, a gesture extended to the Muslim community in New Juaben North.
She commended the Muslims for praying for Ghana throughout their Ramadan fasting .
Alhaji Mohammed Nurideen, spokesperson Regional Council of Muslim chiefs, commended President John Mahama for fulfilling most of the promises to Muslim communities in his first 120 days in office.
He cited the reduction of the Hajj fare, the extra holidays for the celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
He however reminded the President of their request to nominate a member of the Zango community to become Metropolitan Chief Executive for the first time since its establishment New Juaben South Assembly.
The Council of Zango Chiefs named the Minister “Hajia Rakiya”.
