Vice President Professor Jane Naana has called for regulation of political party financing to enhance the country’s anti-corruption credentials.
Speaking at the National Anti-Corruption Conference in Accra, the vice president said the initiative will address leadership concerns in the various political parties.
She also called for anti-corruption institutions to be financially supported to sustain their independence.

“We must ensure also that we have sustainable financing for anti-corruption institutions to reduce their influence and also to enhance their independence. The financing of political parties and national elections must be regulated through comprehensive legislation that addresses both internal party leadership selection and national campaign funding,” the vice president said.
The vice president, who also extolled President John Mahama for his anti-corruption campaign, called on journalists, citizens and civil society organizations to partner government in the fight against corruption.
“We need to engage our citizens. No anti-corruption architecture can succeed without active citizen engagement. Civil society organizations, investigative journalists, and ordinary citizens will be the partners in this fight,” she said at the function.

While acknowledging the crucial role of the Right to Information law, she called on citizens to do more to ensure transparency and accountability.
