National Cathedral: I won’t be part of controversies – Dr. Lawrence Tetteh

The Founder and President of World Wide Miracle, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh has said he will not accept to be part of the National Cathedral because of the current controversies.

Speaking on Starr Chat with Bola Ray, Dr. Tetteh stated that there should have been inclusiveness in the construction of the National Cathedral.

“If everybody was put together and all hands were on desk it wouldn’t have been an NPP agenda. It will have been a national agenda. What I am saying is that we politicize things so much that what is supposed to be a national agenda for our community becomes a political party’s agenda. The beauty is that we should have had a National Cathedral, most nations I have been to have National Cathedral,” Dr. Tetteh stated.

According to him, he supports the National agenda and would have been very happy to see a Cathedral built for the nation.

“In fact, I supported the Cathedral. I sowed a seed. If all the things you are hearing now is what to go by then everybody must be careful.  Monies sunk into the project are our money, monies that have been sunk into the project had our hard earned reputations. The little taxes we pay the little contributions so the question some of us are asking is what went wrong?

“You don’t want to serve on controversies, no I will not take it. I would have from the beginning but not now. If it is already a mess why would you want to be part? I am yet to understand why Dr. Eastwood is no more there, Archbishop Duncan Williams is no more there,” Dr. Tetteh stated.

Background

Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams and Rev. Eastwood Anaba have resigned from the Board of Trustees overseeing the construction of the National Cathedral in Ghana.

The two respected clergymen in January 2023 called for an immediate suspension of the construction of the National Cathedral pending an audit of the project.

In a statement signed by both Archbishop Duncan-Williams and Reverend Anaba, they explained that the decision to resign was due to the failure of the government to appoint an independent accounting firm to audit all public funds contributed to the National Cathedral.

“Despite our prayers, best hopes and wishes, unfortunately, a needed audit to help restore public confidence and trust in this consequential project has not been enacted to the best of our knowledge. Since January 2023, we awaited news to no avail, regarding the finding of the audit.

“We, therefore, regret that as a matter of conscience and faith, we hereby submit to you our resignation from the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral.”
