A member of the legal team of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abraham Amaliba has stated that the continuous tagging of the party as corrupt by its founder Jerry John Rawlings are nothing, but mere opinions.
His comments come in the wake of assertions by Mr. Rawlings during the 38th anniversary of the June 4 uprising in Upper West region that the humiliating defeat suffered by the NDC in the 2016 elections was due to unbridled greed and corruption.
Also speaking at a rally to mark the NDC’s 25th anniversary of the establishment of the party at Ashaiman Saturday June 10, he said “Power corrupts us too quickly, too easily” urging re-examination of themselves.
But reacting to the comments of the former president Monday June 12 on Morning Starr, Mr. Amaliba said unequivocally that he disagreed with him.
According to him, the constant labeling of the party and its officials as corrupt by Mr. Rawlings are mere opinions he holds and he is entitled to them.
Asked if the labeling is true by the Morning Starr host Francis Abban, he replied: “I’m not in a position to place a value judgement on what people say. That is their view whether it is true or not.”
According to him, to the best of his knowledge he had not for “once seen evidence of corruption in the NDC.”
“Maybe Ex-President Rawlings knows something I do not know. But I disagree if he says the NDC was corrupt,” said Mr. Amaliba.
