Noah Nash Hoenyefia, a journalist at EIB Network’s GHOne TV, has been selected as a Fellow for the 2025/2026 Africa Extractives Media Fellowship (AEMF).

This distinguished initiative recognizes and supports exceptional journalists who are committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development within Africa’s extractive industries.

The Africa Extractives Media Fellowship is a competitive program that convenes outstanding journalists from across the continent, with the goal of enhancing reporting in the mining, oil, gas, and energy sectors. The fellowship aims to strengthen media capacity, foster collaboration, and promote data-driven, solution-oriented journalism within Ghana’s extractive sector.

Noah Nash Hoenyefia’s application, according to organizers, stood out among over 350 nationwide entries. Hoenyefia is dedicated to improving journalism in Northern Ghana and focuses on environmental and community issues.

He has reported on agriculture, climate change, health, education, natural resource management, community impact, and sustainable development. He expressed gratitude for the recognition.

“This fellowship is both an honor and a responsibility,” he said. “Africa’s extractive sector has great potential but also serious challenges like environmental harm and unfair resource distribution. Journalists must ensure the voices of affected communities are heard and accountability remains central to development.”

The Africa Extractives Media Fellowship (AEMF) program helps journalists learn more about investigative and data journalism. It offers mentorship from experts and opportunities to work on projects across borders in the country.

The program aims to improve journalists’ understanding of how the extractive sector is governed and how it affects local communities.
Fellows participate in workshops, field visits, and receive guidance in newsrooms. It helps them to create meaningful stories based on evidence that can shape public discussions and influence policy.

They will also look into important topics such as climate change, energy transition, corporate responsibility, and the impact of extractives on Africa’s economy.

“This is a great chance to learn, share ideas, and work with other journalists who care about telling Africa’s resource stories responsibly,” Noah Nash said. “I want to focus on stories that not only show the challenges but also highlight innovative solutions and best practices in the sector.”

The AEMF was created to address the need for better reporting on natural resources in Ghana and Africa. Even though the continent has rich mineral and energy resources, much of the reporting on extractives is shallow or biased. The fellowship aims to change this by giving journalists the skills, knowledge, and connections they need to tell deeper and more impactful stories.

The upcoming 2025/2026 fellowship cohort will comprise journalists from a variety of media outlets across the country, establishing a diverse network of professionals united by the common objective of promoting accountability and environmental stewardship in resource governance.

Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, Program Lead of the Africa Extractives Media Fellowship, stated, “When journalists are equipped with accurate information and technical skills, they become formidable agents of change. This fellowship is instrumental in developing a new generation of reporters who can effectively bridge the gap between policy, practice, and the real experiences of communities impacted by extractive projects.”

Among the selected fellows, Noah Nash Hoenyefia will engage in research and reporting initiatives over the next year, producing comprehensive stories that illuminate the intersections of extractives, governance, accountability, and development. He believes that his involvement will not only refine his reporting capabilities but also enhance the media capacity within Ghana and beyond.
