The owner of Nsoatreman FC, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has been arrested in connection with the recent violent incidents that marred a Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC on February 2, 2025, at Nana Kronamansah Park.
His arrest follows the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) decision to charge both clubs and take strict disciplinary measures against those involved.
As part of the response, Nana Koronamansah Park has been indefinitely banned, while an investigation team has arrived in Sunyani to meet with regional police leadership and visit the site of the incident. The police high command has also been invited to tackle the criminal aspects of the case.
Meanwhile, ExCo member Fred Acheampong is leading a delegation to visit the bereaved family in Kumasi, with the Regional Football Association (RFA) leadership in Ashanti Region expected to join. The GFA has also put Ghana Premier League Match Day 20 on hold as it focuses on resolving the crisis.
Further discussions are set to take place, with GPL club CEOs scheduled for a meeting at the GFA headquarters on February 6, 2025, while supporters’ leadership of all GPL clubs will meet on February 7, 2025.
