The Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command has arrested a 16-year-old Form Two student of Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) for unlawful possession of a locally manufactured firearm.
According to a statement issued by the Ashanti Regional Police Command on May 18, 2025, the firearm was discovered by school authorities during a routine search in the student dormitory on the morning of Tuesday, May 14, 2025. The school immediately handed over the student and the weapon to the police for further investigation.
During police interrogation, the student claimed the firearm belonged to his stepfather, Mr. Daniel Owusu Baafi. The stepfather was subsequently arrested on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
Both the student and Mr. Owusu Baafi have since been granted police enquiry bail and are expected to report to the police on Monday, May 19, 2025, to assist with ongoing investigations.
The police have assured the public that they remain committed to ensuring safety in schools and will thoroughly investigate the incident to determine the source and purpose of the weapon.
