The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ella Esinam Christine Nongo, has commissioned a three-storey, 12-unit classroom block for the Otano Presbyterian School to help address the growing demand for classroom space.
The project, which constitutes Phase One of an 18-unit classroom block, was commissioned on Tuesday,September 8, 2026 and funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Ella Esinam Christine Nongo said the new facility will provide pupils and teachers with a more conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.
She stressed that the quality of the school environment plays an important role in shaping pupils’ academic outcomes, noting that overcrowded and unsuitable classrooms can negatively affect learning.
“A child cannot be expected to learn effectively in an overcrowded, unsafe and unsuitable environment,” she said.
The MCE added that teachers also require appropriate facilities to effectively plan lessons, teach and provide the necessary support to pupils.
According to her, a good school environment goes beyond providing physical space, as it can directly influence pupils’ attendance, concentration, discipline and academic performance.
“A good school environment contributes significantly to attendance, concentration, discipline and academic performance. It also gives pupils a sense of dignity, belonging and motivation,” she stated.
Hon. Esinam Nongo said the completion of the project demonstrates what can be achieved when public resources are properly prioritised and effectively managed.
She described the project as an investment in the future of the pupils and the wider community, stressing the importance of providing quality educational infrastructure to support teaching and learning.
“The completion of this project is a clear demonstration that when public resources are properly prioritised and effectively managed, government can deliver projects that make a meaningful difference,” she said.
The Municipal Chief Executive commended the contractor, the Ghana Education Service, the school community and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the successful completion of the project.
The newly commissioned facility is expected to help ease pressure on existing classroom infrastructure at the Otano Presbyterian School and improve the overall learning environment for pupils.
