Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has extended heartfelt condolences to families affected by the Volta Lake boat accident near Kete Krachi, which claimed 15 lives, including 11 children.
In a Facebook post on Monday, October 13, the Vice President said the government was deeply saddened by the tragedy and stands in solidarity with the victims’ families and the affected community.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic boat accident on the Volta Lake near Kete Krachi that has claimed the lives of 15 people, including 11 children.
On behalf of the Government of Ghana, I extend heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, the affected community, and all who have been impacted by this tragedy. We stand with you in this moment of grief,” she said.

The accident, which occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, has been confirmed by the Ghana Maritime Authority.
The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has also expressed condolences to the families affected by the accident while calling for stricter adherence to safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
