The Ghana Police Service has defended its decision to align its transformation agenda to that of the ruling New Patriotic Party’s 2016 manifesto.
Within this transformation agenda, the service has set itself a four year target to be ranked among the 10 best Police organisations in the world.
It also wants to reform attitude of police professionals, resource the police service and build capacity to tackle terrorism, cyber and cross border crime.
The Director of the transformation unit of the police service, Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Agodzo speaking to Ultimate News said “the government in power now in their manifesto stated 13 strategic means by which they want to develop the Ghana police service, so we used that as a reference point to say yes, they are using this and with your commitment to it, we will transform the police service.”
Meanwhile, a Security Analyst, David Agbee has called security agencies in the country to be professional and respect the constitution.
According to him, aligning the transformation agenda of the service to the NPP is wrong and unprofessional.
“The security agencies need to respect our constitution and be more professional…that is what, police institutions need to be doing, and police senior officers need to be doing, not sound like they are only respecting a manifesto promise of a political party be it NPP or NDC.”
