It was a night of glitz and glamour designed to honour the very best on the media landscape whose works on radio and tv, have kept the public informed, educated and entertained.

The Radio and Television Personality Awards, held last Saturday, drew a large and expectant audience eager to learn who had won what in the much-publicized media event.

There were many deserving winners and gallant losers. The night, however, undoubtedly, belonged to one woman alone, Serwaa Amihere, who walked away with the enviable Television Female Newscaster of the Year Award.

Her breath-taking beauty and immaculate dressing are impossible to miss but little was known about her until her emergence on the screen as a newscaster at Ridge-based media outfit, GH One Televison. Not even a bit-part role as a pundit on that station’s fashion magazine programme, Glitterati previously, had imprinted her name on the minds of the viewing public.

She later met Nana Aba who after making Serwaa part of the  newsroom at GH One Tv – rubbed her unmeasured influence to enable her begin new career life – first as producer of the award-winning current affairs show, State of Affairs.

Applying herself in a diligent and studious manner to this endeavor, she helped propel the show past competing programmes on other stations.

Her big break came when Nana Aba, spotting further potential in her newly-minted protégé, made the decision to try her out on the station’s morning news.

It proved a fateful decision as Miss Amihere grew from strength to strength, moving up the pecking order to present the more prestigious afternoon news bulletin and later the prime-time news bulletin in the evenings.

For someone with no journalism or media background, the Banking and Finance graduate, has flourished in that department, conducting riveting interviews with those who matter on the social, political and business front, to the delight of viewers.

That performance did not go unnoticed by the powers-that-be at the station. Additional responsibilities were promptly thrust upon Amihere’s delicate and alluring shoulders when she was picked to replace her mentor, Nana Aba, as host of the station’s light-hearted sports programme, Cheers.

To the pleasant surprise of many, she has since displayed remarkable knowledge and depth in sports analysis and counts among her guests, some of the biggest names in the field from top footballers, coaches, administrators and several celebrities.

For all her dazzling beauty, Miss Amihere packs quite a punch and has deployed an effective public image and branding strategy that has earned her huge following on all social media platforms.

From there, her nomination for the RTP award had become almost inevitable. She was drawn alongside seasoned newscasters in this category and her victory is a testament to just how good she has been in the year under review.

Her achievement is made all the more remarkable by the fact that she has been at this for barely two years.

Miss Amihere apparently counts gratitude and humility among her attributes. She has been profuse in her show of appreciation to the woman to whom she owes her rise. In a touching dedication shortly after she was named winner, she recalled the role played by Nana Aba Anamoah and paid her glowing tribute.

The award represents far more than a personal triumph for Miss Amihere in the face of formidable adversity, it represents the maturation of the rookie newscaster into a consummate news professional. It will no doubt introduce a bounce in her step and heighten public interest in her career trajectory.

It would also deepen scrutiny of her work.
