The Ministry of Roads and Highways has directed contractors working on road projects across the country to put in place adequate measures to minimise inconveniences to motorists and residents during construction activities.
The directive follows growing complaints from road users and residents in several parts of the country over excessive dust, traffic disruptions and deteriorating road conditions on roads under construction.
Speaking during an inspection of the 49-kilometre Asikuma Junction–Anyirawasi Road Project, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways and Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, apologised to Ghanaians for the inconveniences associated with the ongoing nationwide road construction programme.
According to him, the temporary discomfort is a consequence of the government’s decision to accelerate infrastructure development across the country.
Mr. Suhuyini noted that, as announced by President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana has effectively become a construction site due to the numerous road projects currently underway nationwide.
The Deputy Minister commended the contractor, , for ensuring that the road remains motorable while construction works continue.
He also appealed to Regional Ministers and traditional authorities to take a keen interest in road projects within their jurisdictions to ensure timely execution and address challenges that may arise during implementation.
Mr. Suhuyini’s remarks were followed by interactions with project officials and stakeholders on measures aimed at improving road conditions while reducing the impact of construction activities on communities and commuters.
