Rotary District Governor affirms commitment to lasting community impact

The District Governor of Rotary International District 9104, Nana Yaa Pokua Siriboe, has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to driving meaningful, long-term change across communities in Ghana.

Speaking at the joint investiture of Rotary and Rotaract District 9104 on July 5, the newly installed Governor emphasized that Rotary’s mission transcends charitable acts—it is a force for measurable development that transforms lives, fosters peace, and builds resilient communities.

“Development, inclusion, and impactful service are the way forward,” she affirmed. “When we unite for good to protect our environment, we tell ourselves that we can change our situation—for ourselves and for future generations.”

District Governor Siriboe urged all clubs to align with the Rotary Action Plan by not only expanding their impact but also building the capacity to measure, analyze, and sustain the results of their service projects.

“Our commitment to increasing our impact must be rooted in action. We need to define clear goals, measure our outcomes, and track the progress of our work more effectively.”

She further stressed the importance of expanding Rotary’s reach through inclusive engagement. “We must share our values with new audiences, create spaces that welcome all, and develop innovative ways to bring people together to experience the power of Rotary.”

Assuming leadership from outgoing Governor Florence Maame Hagan, DG Siriboe urged Rotary clubs to prioritize transformative projects that address core community needs—such as access to clean water, sanitation, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

She cited Rotary’s ongoing contributions to polio eradication, environmental conservation, and peacebuilding as living examples of sustainable development in action.

Reflecting on a recent trip to Tamale, where a Rotary-sponsored borehole project brought relief to local residents, she remarked, “The joy I saw in Tamale reminded me that development begins with people. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about meeting real needs with compassion and action.”

Rotary District 9104, which covers the entirety of Ghana, currently consists of 71 Rotary clubs, 59 Rotaract clubs, and 36 Interact clubs. DG Siriboe announced plans to expand Rotary’s footprint into underserved areas through innovative club models, including Passport Clubs, Cause-Based Clubs, Satellite Clubs, and E-Clubs.

“To truly serve, we must grow,” she emphasized. “We must reach more people, include more voices, and create opportunities for others to experience the power of Rotary.”

On her part, District Rotaract Representative Olive Naa Asheley Addo, who succeeded Jeanne Solange Adjo Kegou, underscored the power of ethical leadership, innovation, and collective action within Rotaract.

“Our goals this year are clear,” she stated. “To promote leadership continuity, drive membership growth, cultivate ethical and skilled leaders, and foster collaboration for meaningful change. The future of this District lies in all of us.”

She also encouraged Rotaractors to “rise together, leave no club behind, and serve with courage and compassion,” drawing inspiration from the timeless words of Helen Keller and the uplifting lyrics of Osibisa’s Woyaya.

Guest Speaker and Trustee Ijeoma Pearl Okoro (Rotary Foundation) delivered a powerful keynote address.

“Continuity is not about uniformity—it’s about alignment. Support the new leadership. Our membership and contributions have steadily increased over the past three years, and this progress must continue.” She encouraged Rotarians to pursue funding and innovation. “We must write grants, go through the necessary rigours, seek partners, and tap into The Rotary Foundation (TRF). Our service builds public trust, and this draws more support. Let’s donate, raise awareness, and help erase polio from the world.”

Meanwhile, it was officially announced that Rotary District 9104’s 2026 District Conference (DISCON) will be held at the iconic Rock City Hotel in Kwahu, Eastern Region.

“In 2026, we’re heading to the breathtaking hills of Kwahu for our District Conference,” said Host Organising Committee Chair Frank Afari Ankamah. “If you’ve never experienced sunrise over the Kwahu hills or danced to highlife music under the stars, this is your chance. Start preparing.”
