Sammi Awuku has officially stepped down as the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), effective January 13, 2025.
His resignation comes after being elected as the Member of Parliament for the Akwapim North constituency.
In his resignation letter, Awuku stated that he wishes to focus on serving as a Member of Parliament, following his swearing-in to represent his constituents.
He was appointed as Director-General of the NLA in August 2021 by former President Akufo-Addo and received confirmation from the Public Services Commission in July 2022.
The NLA, established in 1958, is an autonomous public service institution responsible for organizing lotteries in Ghana.
Awuku has requested a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities, wishing the authority well in its future endeavors.
Awuku noted, “I write to formally inform you of my resignation as Director General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA) effective 13th January, 2025. I have been elected as the Member of Parliament for the Akwapim North constituency and have been duly sworn in to represent my constituents. In the light of this new responsibility, I wish to focus my efforts on serving as a Member of Parliament.”

I kindly request that you appoint a replacement for the position of Director General to facilitate a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities.
