Pro-New Patriotic Party group known as Patriotic Movement for Dr. Bawumia based in the Ashanti region made up of constituency executives and grassroots supporter of the Party executive are urging the party’s Flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to ignore pressure from certain groups within the party to select their preferred candidate as his running mate for the elections 2024.
The Patriotic Movement for Bawumia believes that succumbing to this pressure would have negative consequences for the party’s chances in the upcoming presidential election.
Addressing a news conference on the development in Kumasi on Sunday 21st April 2024 Vice Chairman of the Oforikrom branch of the party chairman, Aggry Fiifi convenor of the group argued that previous instances of candidates being influenced by parochial party groups have resulted in electoral defeat and factionalism within the party.
The group emphasizes that the choice of a running mate should be solely at the discretion of Dr. Bawumia, and they condemn any attempts to force a candidate on him through press conferences, petitions, or other means.
Chairman Fiifi cautions individuals interested in becoming the running mate to refrain from sponsoring such pressure tactics.
He asserts that Dr. Bawumia should be allowed to lead and choose a running mate who he believes is capable of helping the NPP secure victory and bring development to Ghana.
