Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante says Ghana are heading to the FIFA World Cup with ambition and belief, insisting the team wants to make a real impact at the tournament rather than simply participating.
Speaking to the Black Stars media team at the squad’s training camp in Cardiff ahead of their international friendly against Wales, the 27-year-old revealed his excitement after fulfilling a lifelong dream of earning a place in Ghana’s World Cup squad.
“We want to progress and be successful at the World Cup. We don’t just want to turn up,” Thomas-Asante said.
The Coventry City striker also shared the emotional journey behind his World Cup call-up, disclosing that he once wrote down his dream of representing Ghana on football’s biggest stage.
“I wrote down on a paper that I wanted to make the Black Stars squad for the World Cup, and now I’m here,” he added.
Thomas-Asante also praised head coach Carlos Queiroz, describing the experienced trainer as a major influence within the team.
“It’s been a blessing working with coach Carlos Queiroz. He has incredible experience,” the forward stated.
The in-form striker says he is ready to embrace the opportunity after years of dreaming about playing at the Mundial.
“To play at the World Cup is something I’ve been praying for since childhood. I’m ready to take the opportunity,” he said.
Thomas-Asante heads into the tournament in strong form after helping Coventry City secure Premier League promotion after 25 years. The forward contributed 13 goals and four assists during the season and will be hoping to carry that form into Ghana’s World Cup campaign.
