The Togolese army has expressed its regrets for the killing of seven teenagers on Saturday night who were mistaken for jihadists.
Army chief, Dadja Maganawe, in a statement said that the victims were killed when they were attacked by an army aircraft on night patrol.
The media in Northern Savanes region reported earlier that the teenagers9 were on their way home from celebrating the Muslim holiday Eid-ul-Adha.
The victims were between the ages of 14 and 18.
The Togolese government and army since May this year have been on high alert following the country’s first deadly militant attack that led to the killing of eight soldiers near the border with Burkina Faso.
The happenings in Togo only heighten the fears and apprehension of citizens in the sub-region.
