The Deputy Defence Minister, Brogya Gyamfi, has dismissed reports alleging that military lands have been allocated to the President’s brother, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a statement, he clarified that the Ghana Armed Forces is instead undertaking a self-help redevelopment project at Burma Camp in Accra to replace ageing infrastructure and improve accommodation for personnel.
He said, “I wish to firmly dismiss and ignore any false and malicious reports suggesting that military lands have been given to the President’s brother to develop. That story is completely untrue.”
According to him, the initiative targets “colonial-era, dilapidated buildings” within the military enclave.
The Minister also disclosed that businessman Ibrahim Mahama, Chief Executive Officer of Dzata Group Holding Limited, has contributed GH¢120 million towards the project.
“In support of this noble initiative, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama… has generously donated GHC120 million for 10 blocks of 16 units each as part of the replacement program,” he stated.
He added that the fundraising effort was launched at a luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy, which brought together stakeholders and corporate partners.
“The fundraising luncheon for this project was held last Saturday… chaired by Sir Sam Jonah, and witnessed several donations and pledges from Corporate Ghana and partners of the Armed Forces,” he noted.
The Deputy Minister further expressed appreciation for the donation, describing it as a boost to military welfare.
