The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced coach, who has managed teams at multiple World Cups including Portugal and Iran, was introduced to the Ghanaian media at a short unveiling ceremony held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
Speaking at his unveiling, Queiroz expressed deep gratitude and confidence as he begins the role. “I am fully ready for the Black Stars job,” he stated, signaling his immediate readiness to take charge of the team.
He emphasized that coaching Ghana represents the biggest challenge of his career. “Coaching the Black Stars is the biggest challenge of my career,” Queiroz said, highlighting the expectations surrounding the role.
The Portuguese coach also paid tribute to his predecessor, Otto Addo, acknowledging the foundation already laid within the team.
“The goal is to improve Otto Addo’s legacy. I want to thank him for qualifying Ghana to the World Cup,” he added.
Queiroz further underlined the mentality he intends to instil in the squad, promising a competitive and disciplined approach.
“I am a winning coach. A winning mentality is one thing you can expect from me,” he said confidently.
With Ghana preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, expectations are high for Queiroz to bring structure, experience, and stability to the Black Stars as they aim for a strong showing on the global stage.
Queiroz replaces Otto Addo, who departed following Ghana’s recent friendly defeats against Austria and Germany. His appointment comes as Ghana prepares intensively for the global tournament, where they have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
