Commercial transport operators have praised the government for reviving and sustaining work on the long-delayed Ofankor–Nsawam road project.
The operators, in a statement, commended President John Dramani Mahama, Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Agbodza, and his deputy Alhassan Suhuyini for their commitment to ensuring improved road infrastructure, noting that progress on the project has eased movement for drivers and commuters alike.
They expressed gratitude to the government for re-engaging the contractor and called for continuous investment in the country’s road network to enhance transportation services.
A portion of the statement noted, “We, the Commercial Transport Operators, would like to extend our heartfelt commendation to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, and his able Deputy Minister, Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini, for their unwavering commitment to providing motorable roads.
Specifically, we want to acknowledge the efforts made in bringing the contractor on board for the Ofankor-Nsawam road project. The progress made so far has significantly improved the condition of the road, making it easier for us to ply our trade.”
Meanwhile, President Mahama, during a site inspection on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, charged Maripoma Enterprise Limited, the construction firm handling the project, to deliver quality work within the revised timelines.
He assured the contractors of the government’s readiness to meet its financial obligations but emphasized the need for speed and durability in execution.
The Ofankor–Nsawam project, which began in July 2022 under the Akufo-Addo administration, has suffered repeated delays, including a four-month suspension earlier this year over funding concerns.
Originally scheduled for completion in July 2024, the deadline has since been extended multiple times, frustrating commuters who endure daily gridlock.
